Aims & Objectives
Students will learn how to perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians, especially traditional Chinese art music.
Students will learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence
Students in King Ling will understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Secondary One
Performing: Compulsory instrumental classes (4 – 8 students per group) during regular music lessons. Two assessments including individual performing tasks and group ensemble works. Instrument choices in the previous years: Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Clarinet, Erhu, Dizi, Pipa and Zheng.

1. Music in Asia – Chinese Music, Indonesian Gamelan, Japanese Gagaku and Indian Raga
2. American Pop Music – Blues and Jazz Music, Rock Music, Latin Music
Secondary Three (Elective class, 10 – 12 lessons)
1. Film Music and Video game Music
i. Composing tasks using music production software (e.g. logic pro, Sibelius and garage band)
ii. Introduction of Music production industry
2. Pop Music
i. Lyrics and song words
ii. Idea of hooks and riffs
iii. Popular song structure
