Qualities of Athletes and Leaders

For the first time ever, Hong Kong will co-host the National Games of the People’s Republic of China. In less than 30 days, Hong Kong will host the 15th annual national sports event alongside Guangdong and Macao. Hong Kong will stage eight competition events: basketball (Men's U22), track cycling, fencing, golf, handball (Men), rugby sevens, triathlon, and beach volleyball, as well as one mass participation event, bowling.

The 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games will begin two weeks after the 15th National Games.

Through the morning assembly speeches, teachers and student leaders have shared much about the “Characteristics of Leaders.” In my opinion, athletes and leaders share many common qualities. For one, they exhibit perseverance. Both athletes and leaders endure countless practices, trials, and mistakes to achieve their goals. "Never give up" is not just a slogan but a commitment to strive for improvement every day.

Additionally, both athletes and leaders demonstrate great resiliency. Obviously, they are able to work under great pressure. The journey to success is always rough and long; getting through all these ups and downs is not easy. Sometimes, it can be frustrating and lonely. However, it is important to seek help and advice from others, like coaches and former athletes who have winning and even losing experiences. With guidance and support, it becomes easier to get through tough times. Support from family and friends is equally important.

I hope that all King Ling students will build the internal strength, their sense perseverance, and personal resiliency day by day. We should all support the National Games, the National Games for Persons with Disabilities, and the National Special Olympic Games. Let us witness how all athletes demonstrate their commitment, perseverance, and resilience.
